The Lunch Box

We finally made up our mind to take a break and go watch a movie. It had been quite long. Previously whenever Bg asked for a late night movie show, my answer would be a no! My argument was that we had two full days in the weekend and we can go then. But now that weekends are busy, I suggested for a late night Friday show. ๐Ÿ™‚

I had heard good reviews aboutย The Lunch Box and watched it’s trailer and liked it too. Also since it was just a little more than an hour and half in length, it suited us well. ๐Ÿ™‚ So we decided to go for it!

The tickets were booked for the show at 10 pm and we decided to have dinner outside too. ๐Ÿ™‚ But, I got caught up with some issue at work and couldn’t leave early. I reached home only at 8.30. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I freshened up and we rushed to a hotel close by the theater and had our dinner. It wasn’t upto the mark, but since we had no time, we had to make do. We made it to the theater in time and got in.

The next two hours were excellent! I loved every bit of the movie! ๐Ÿ™‚ The stars Irrfan Khan and Nimrat Kaur have done a great job in their roles! The distinct voice of Bharathi Achrekar, as the aunty upstairs, needed no introduction to be recognized. If you have watched her asย Radhika Wagle in Wagle Ki Duniya, then you will remember and recognize her voice anywhere! ๐Ÿ™‚

The story begins when theย The Dabbawallasย deliver the lunch box to a wrong address.ย The overall story line revolves around the two main characters, talking to each other through chits placed in the lunch box and how they affect each other and fall in love too. ๐Ÿ™‚ These details you get by watching the trailer too. I don’t want to divulge much about the story line, as the movie is worth being watched and enjoyed!

What I liked most about the movie was the importance given to the details. The subtle manner in which the message is portrayed, that it takes an effort from both the ends to protect a marriage/relationship and that just a little love can make a lot of difference! How many Indian women just puts up with their husband all their life, even though they get no respect and love! It’s a common thing in our country, but portrayed extremely well in the movie.

I also liked how everything reflected the life on the common middle class man. The locality, the houses, the daily struggle in travel, the washing of clothes, the cooking, the eating and the cherishing of well made food. I couldn’t help but notice how carefully each time, the character Mr. Fernandez places his spectacles into the box. Loved the intricate detailing!

The climax of the movie especially is great, according to me. I like the way it’s left to the viewer’s imagination. It’s open ended and filled with loads of possibilities. It’s a movie of the kind which leaves you thinking! So if you wanna have a great time, some good laugh, entertainment and food for thought, go watchย The Lunch Box! ๐Ÿ™‚
