My Only Poem

A story lo and behold!
A lifetime to unfold.

Here comes a life onto the earth,
A wailing baby takes birth.

Next is the time of infancy,
For all things there’s a great fancy!

Then comes childhood so sweet,
When begins the pitter-patter of the feet.

Teenagers say, “Hey dude!”
Life’s only about attitude.

Adolescence knocks at your door,
Tells, life’s got much more in store.

When opportunities come along,
Adulthood is where you belong.

Family to love and care,
And responsibilities you know you have to share.

You learn “Life’s not a bed of roses”,
From the difficulties it poses.

Middle age creeps in,
As your hair starts growing thin.

Your services no longer in need,
58 – retirement indeed.

Old age beckons you, stick in hand.
With you lonely thoughts, alone you stand.

Life comes a full circle you know,
But the urge to live on remains so.

People close to your heart,
Is from whom you depart.

Thus goes on the saga of life,
Joy or sorrow, happiness or strife!

I found this poem, I had written back in school. 🙂 Probably the first and last poem I ever wrote. Though certain pieces of of poetry has really made a mark on me, it’s prose that I love! It has always been that way. My sister used to write a lot of poetry and was well appreciated. But me, this was my only attempt, which was submitted as part of a competition for ‘The Hindu’ newspaper. Though it didn’t get selected. It had got me a participation prize! 🙂 Thought I should record it here. 🙂
